Precision grinding

BO-Solutions: precision grinding in metal for critical applications.

With face, cylindrical, and centerless grinding, we bring hardened steel, carbide, and stainless steel to tolerances of down to ±0.005 mm and Ra values < 0.1 µm – for machine building, offshore, energy, defense, and high-tech.

Micro-precision grinding for critical parts

Precision grinding of metal parts on a CNC grinding machine at BO-Solutions – centerless and face grinding

For bearing seats, sealing surfaces, guides, and fits, precision grinding is the only method that guarantees extreme flatness and mirror-smooth surfaces – or the difference between functioning and failure.

Applications:

  • Hydraulic and pneumatic components – leak-free sealing surfaces
  • Bearing seats and drive shafts – vibration-free fit and long service life
  • Mold parts and tooling – repeatable precision under production pressure
  • Medical instruments – sterile surface quality
  • Precision parts in mechanical engineering and automation – reliable operation

OUR GRINDING EXPERTISE: SURFACE, CYLINDRICAL AND CENTERLESS GRINDING

We combine various grinding processes to give each part the most optimal process

Surface grinding: for smooth, flat reference surfaces

For parts that require flatness, parallelism, and a fine surface, we use surface grinding.

  • Working area up to 1200 × 600 mm
  • Tolerances down to ±0.005 mm
  • Surface roughness down to Ra 0.05 μm (mirror smooth)

Ideal for guide surfaces, clamping plates, die parts, planing surfaces, and critical reference surfaces.

Cylindrical grinding: internal and external, concentric and coaxial

With cylindrical grinding, we bring shafts, bushings, and cylindrical parts to the exact size and alignment.

  • Max. diameter approx. 250 mm
  • Internal and external grinding possible
  • Specialty: concentric, coaxial, cylindrical grinding

Perfect for bearing seats, sealing surfaces, cylindrical fits, and combinations of inner and outer diameters in a single part.

Centerless grinding: high throughput on cylindrical parts

For longer workpieces and serial parts, centerless grinding is often the best choice.

  • Efficient for long cylindrical workpieces
  • High throughput with tolerances around ±0.005 mm
  • Ideal for pins, rollers, shafts and studs

This way, you can have metal ground in series without compromising on tolerances.

MATERIAL EXPERTISE: FROM HARDENED STEEL TO ENGINEERING PLASTICS

A skilled metal grinder masters both machine and material.

We grind the following materials, among others:

  • Hardened steels (also through-hardened, up to tooling and tool grades)
  • Carbide, also with diamond grinding wheels
  • Stainless steel
  • Engineering plastics in specific applications

For each component, we take into account:

Which hardness, which structure, which application? This is how we determine the right grinding strategy, wheel and parameters.

Precision grinding: BO-Solutions, your specialist

BO-Solutions specializes in industrial precision grinding for demanding applications.

Our expertise:

  • Tolerances down to ±0.005 mm and surface quality Ra < 0.1 µm
  • Critical parts for hydraulics, pneumatics, bearings and seals

Need a critical part ground? We'll help you find the solution.

Do you have a component that requires high-level grinding – surface, round, or centerless?

Send us your drawing, photo, model, or existing part, and we will advise on the best grinding strategy, achievable tolerances, and combinations with other machining operations.

We grind precision parts that function in critical systems: bearing seats, sealing surfaces, hydraulic components, and mold parts. We do not regrind cutting tools.

Frequently Asked Questions about Precision Grinding

What is CNC grinding?

CNC grinding is grinding using computer-controlled grinding machines. The movements of the table, grinding wheel, and workpiece are controlled by a CNC controller.

Advantages of CNC grinding:

  • Reproducible tolerances – the same measurement time after time
  • More complex movements and profiles are possible
  • Programs can be saved, modified, and recalled
  • Ideal for series, but also for complex single pieces

At BO-Solutions , we combine CNC grinding with precise measurement, so that the result not only looks good but also objectively falls within tolerance.

Broadly speaking, the difference is about:

1. Goal

  • Non-precision grinding: removing burrs, rough shaping, making surfaces “neat”.
  • Precision grinding: tolerances in micrometers, tightly defined roughness, flatness, roundness, concentricity, …

2. Implementation

  • Non-precision grinding: often manual, with an angle grinder, multi-tool, or simple machine.
  • Precision grinding: on finely tuned grinding machines (surface, cylindrical, centerless), often CNC-controlled, with well-thought-out clamping and cooling strategy.

3. Check

  • Non-precision grinding: primarily visual inspection or rough dimensional control.
  • Precision grinding: with micrometers, height gauges, CMM, roughness gauges, and often within an ISO 9001 quality system.

A metal grinding company like BO-Solutions focuses on precision grinding: parts that must perform exactly according to drawing and within strict tolerances.
