Frequently Asked Questions About CNC Milling

Can I CNC mill both metal and plastic?

Yes, BO-Solutions mills steel, aluminum, stainless steel and technical plastics.

More axes = more freedom in design. 3-axis is ideal for simple work, 5-axis allows complex geometries without spanning.

CNC milling is digitally controlled, ensuring high accuracy, repeatability and control. Ideal for precision parts or small to medium-sized series.

Both. From a single prototype to small and medium-sized series production, we adapt to your needs.

5-axis milling becomes cost-efficient once your part has more than one machining surface and the fit accuracy between those surfaces is critical. Think of impellers, turbine blades, complex housings with sloping holes, or high-tech parts with reference surfaces that must be within ±0.005 mm. With 3-axis + second tension you always introduce alignment errors of 0.02-0.05 mm –. This is too much for a lot of precision work. The rule we apply: are the critical tolerances between different planes, then 5-axis. If the precision is within one plane, 3-axis can suffice.

Give an exact price based on a separate question? That wouldn't be correct. The price of a precision part depends on several factors: a

  • Material: stainless steel, aluminum, steel, plastic or special alloys
  • Geometry and complexity: 3-axis or 5-axis milling, turning, fine processing such as lapping or honing
  • Tolerances: the more accurate, the more editing time and control
  • Surface treatment: anodizing, hardening, coating, polishing
  • Series size: a prototype charges differently than a series of 50 units
  • Lead time: standard schedule or rush order

A stainless steel part with tight tolerances and a small series therefore counts completely differently than the same aluminum piece for a larger series.

How do our prices compare to the market?

For comparable precision parts we are competitive compared to other Western European precision makers. Compared to Asia imports, our prices look higher at first glance, but include the total cost – quality issues, rejection, lead time, return transport, CO₂ footprint – and the bill is quickly created. At BO-Solutions you know what you pay for: we have a fair price/quality policy.

How do you get a correct quote for your precision part?

Provide us with your technical drawing or photo via the contact page. You will receive a substantiated price estimate back within 2 to 5 working days.
