MIRROR BROACHING & STABBING: CONNECTIONS THAT REALLY FIT

Keyway broaching or stitches for precise mechanical connection at BO-Solutions

A sprocket on an axle, a clutch on a hub, a pulley on a motor shaft: they all have one thing in common, the connection must be low-play and infallible.

With our in-house broaching capacity, we create:

  • Keyway profiles with minimal clearance
  • High transmission force without "knocking" or wear
  • Reproducible quality, piece by piece

We combine machining with broaching and slotting in-house. The result? Shorter delivery time, no risk of loss of quality, lower total cost.

TECHNICAL CAPACITY: KEYWAY FROM 3 TO 24 MM

We spray track brood and insert keyway profiles in various applications – from compact precision parts to robust drive parts.

Broaching Specifications

  • Keyway width: 3 mm – 24 mm
  • Internal keyways: in hubs, couplings, gears, sleeves...
  • External profiles: where this is structurally required
  • Precise fit through one clamping
  • Suitable for all machinable metals

With keyway stitches or broaching in one tension, the geometry remains concentric and in line with the rest of the part.

This eliminates the need for post-processing or realigning.

APPLICATIONS: FOR STRENGTH TRANSMISSIONS

Keyway broaching is mainly used for parts where rotation and power transmission meet.

Typical applications:

  • Keyways in gears and timing pulleys
  • Hubs and couplings on drive shafts
  • Pumps, fans and motors
  • Force Transmitting Seals in Mechanical Engineering and OEM

Do you have an axle-hub connection that now has too much play or a design where you are unsure about the correct keyway size?

We like to think along.

ONE PARTNER FOR MACHINING, splined ROLLING AND STITCHES

The great added value of BO-Solutions: we combine CNC turning/milling with broaching and many other post-processing.

That gives you:

  • One metalworking partner from raw part to finished product
  • Less coordination between different suppliers
  • Better control of passing, concentricity and dimensions
  • Efficient process for prototypes, small series and high-mix/low-volume

You provide a drawing, photo, 3D model or existing part – we provide a manufacturable solution with correct keyway class and tolerance.

BENEFITS OF MIRROR BROACHING AT BO-SOLUTIONS

Why is broaching and/or stabbing in-house a plus for your project?

  • No outsourcing: Fewer links, less risk, less waiting time.
  • Faster turnaround time: Milling/turning + broaching within the same process.
  • Full Quality Control: One quality system, one point of contact.
  • Ideal for force-transmitting joints: Think of axles, hubs, gears, clutches...

Frequently asked questions about Broaching

What is spline broaching?

Broaching is a machining operation in which a special tool – the broach – is pulled (or pressed) through or along the material in one continuous movement. The broots has a series of successive incisors, each time removing slightly more material. This creates an accurate profile, such as a keyway, in a single operation.

A broaching operation is the entire process in which a broaching operation:

  • An internal keyway is installed in a bore
  • An external profile is formed
  • A shape or profile with high accuracy and repeatability is created

The big advantage of broaching is that you get a ready-made profile in one clamping, with accurate size and shape, without several successive milling or grooving operations.

A broaching machine is used to:

  • Making keyways in hubs, couplings and gears
  • Realize profiles and mold holes that are more difficult with standard drilling/milling
  • Provide force-transmitting joints with a precise, low-backlash fit

In short: a broaching machine converts one linear operation into a perfectly shaped profile, ideal for parts used in drivetrains and rotary systems.
